ASI performed an acoustical study to determine the most practical and cost effective noise control solution to reduce the current noise levels. We then documented the noise reduction of the as-built systems and compared the measured data to the noise reduction predictions in ASI Acoustical Engineering Study conducted in 2015 prior to implementation.
Project Description
Item #1: Horizontal Pumps
- Treatment: A four-sided composite acoustical curtain enclosure was installed around the pump system as shown in the following photographs.
- Results Summary: The curtain enclosure pictured above resulted in the 12 to 20 dBA reduction to the treated horizontal pumps. The 12 to 20 dBA reduction met or exceeded the predicted noise reduction of 11 to 13 dBA to the treated sources.
Item #2: Vertical Pumps
- Treatment: A three-sided 2″ metal barrier was installed around the vertical pump system as shown in the following photographs.
- Results Summary: The acoustical barrier pictured above resulted in the 8 to 11 dBA reduction to the treated vertical pumps. The 8 to 11 dBA reduction met or exceeded the predicted noise reduction of 6 to 8 dBA to the treated sources.
Item #3: Horizontal Pumps
- Treatment: A metal acoustical enclosure with no roof was installed around the horizontal pump systems as shown in the following photographs.
- Results Summary: The acoustical enclosure pictured above resulted in a 17 to 24 dBA reduction to the treated pumps. The 17 to 24 dBA reduction met or exceeded the predicted noise reduction of 13 to 15 dBA to the treated sources.
